What we remember about India is 28 states, eight Union Territories a capital and a central government that governs all of them together but this is very systematic to see. Those ruled by royal clans are called states but when we got independence in 1947 the British government gave only the territory directly ruled by them and gave three options to the states of the remaining 565 princely states, one should meet in India two should meet in Pakistan, and three should be an independent country, but this princely state should not meet with India but with Pakistan. It was very dangerous for India to be independent but in 1947 he used his genius political strategies to unite India which was in small pieces with great difficulty. He is Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Everyone thought that Patel would become the first Prime Minister of our country in 1952 despite his hard work but it did not happen he was sworn in as our country first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister but the point here is that there is no real Deputy Prime Minister in the Indian Constitution it is just a post created for Patel. Patel who was supposed to be the Prime Minister became the Home Minister, but Nehru, who had no support from the original Congress party became the Prime Minister of our country. But today I am going to tell the political story behind how this actually happened after the end of the Second World War in 1946 the British Government announced that they were going to give independence to India as soon as possible.
But after the British left India it would take some time for us to make our own constitution and hold elections and form a government. On the other hand, how was this government formed in the last elections held in British India in 1946 the Congress party got more seats. It was announced that the Congress party would form the temporary government. As the government has been formed, the president of that party will become the first prime minister of our country, but here you have to remember that whoever becomes the president of the Congress party they will become the prime minister of the inter government and also independent India has a high chance of becoming the first prime minister so there is no chance to miss any opportunity. Who wouldn’t think so but this is where the fight started How is it that in 1946 Maulana Abul Kalam said as the president of the Congress party so according to the rule, he should become the prime minister of India government but Gandhi did not agree to this because Maulana Azad became the president of the Congress for the first time in 1940 but in 1942 he stepped down and a new person should become the president of the Congress again but in 1942 he quit. When the India Movement took place the British Government imprisoned many of the Congress leaders who participated in that movement so Maulana Azad continued as the Congress President from 1942 to 1946 due to the lack of leaders to succeed him as Congress President.
Officially his term was completed in 1942 so Gandhi did not accept Maulana Azad as your president. So now the congress party needs a new president and he will be the first prime minister of our country so finally two people have entered this race they are Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel but who will be the president of the congress party will be decided by the PCC every congress committee members so there is already a mass following in India. Even after Gandhi clearly announced his support for Jawaharlal Nehru in this contest the PCC committee did not vote, that means a total of 15 PCC committees nominated Patel as the president of the Congress and the remaining three committees did not participate in the actual nominations but if you notice here Nehru did not get a single vote in these nominations. Well because he did not agree to be in the second position in the Congress party Gandhi requested Patel and withdrew his nomination for the post of Congress President so due to this Nehru who did not even get a single vote for entering the government in 1946 became the Prime Minister. Why did he withdraw the nomination Patel strongly believes that when he wants to serve the country of his birth there is no need to have a post. It can also lead to becoming plants, so due to these two reasons Mr. Patel sacrificed his position But the sad thing here is that at the time of this incident Patel was 72 years old but Nehru was only 56 years old. Why am I saying this In fact if Nehru tries he can become the Prime Minister of our country even in the next time.
But this is the last chance for Patel and he knows this. He also sacrificed his position for the country. Finally in 1946 Nehru became the Prime Minister and Patel became the Home Minister. As we have discussed earlier, Nehru became the Prime Minister of the government that came in 1952 after the enter government, moreover he was the Prime Minister of our country for more than 16 years from 1947 to 1964, so think for yourself how much the sacrifice made by Patel in 1946 was worth, even if he did not have the post of PM in the end Patel was a piece of the plant. Now let see how our existing country was united and it was the map of our India when we got independence in 1947. In this map the territory in yellow color is called British India which means it is ruled by the British Directly and the rest of the territory in red color is called States it is said that they are governed independently but at that time there were 565 princely states in India which were taxed by the British government. Only a few dynasties ruled directly but as we talked about in the video starting when we got independence from the British in 1947 these princely states were given three options one should meet in India, two should meet in Pakistan three should remain independent. If we do not meet in India then we will have border conflicts and there will be no law and order anywhere in the country and because of this it will be very easy for enemy countries like China and Pakistan to attack us so Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel noticed this and along with his secretary BP Menon went to the kings of these 565 principal states.
He went and met each of them personally and intimidated some and scared some and showed patriotism to the rest. In total Patel convinced 560 states out of 565 princely states to meet in India but only one three kingdoms did not agree to meet in India, they are Jammu and Kashmir and Hyderabad. If you know how to put it together, you will understand why Patel is called the original Iron Man of India. 80% of the people there are Hindus but the king ruling that area is a Muslim so he decided to join his kingdom in Pakistan instead of India but Junagadh is very far from Pakistan so if Jonna Ghat is joined in Pakistan it will be very bad not only for the Hindus there but also for India as a whole. will be a problem. So Patel noticed this in 1948 and sent the Indian Army to the sorghum field and annexed that area to India. The truth is that a king named Osman was ruling but because he was also a Muslim, he announced that he would either join Pakistan or remain independent but the problem here is that Hyderabad is a very big kingdom and it is located exactly in the middle of India so it is independent that joins Pakistan and belongs to India. It creates a lot of problems and even after the independence of India in 1947 Hyderabad region did not join India and created a lot of problems for the Indian government. For example there were some Muslim forces called Razakars in the Hyderabad kingdom at that time. Their aim was to merge Hyderabad with Pakistan. So to achieve this they tortured the people in Hyderabad raped the women looted burnt the trains going to that area and created violence. In 1948 the Indian Army was sent to Hyderabad and they surrounded Hyderabad from 4 sides at the same time and defeated the Nizam’s army there.
