In 2005, telecom services in India were very expensive, even sending an SMS cost a lot of money, so at that time, IRCTC booked their tickets online. The details of the train tickets are not provided to the customers in the form of SMS but through postal services to their passengers but in present India due to the reduction in the cost of telecom services we are getting all the details of the train tickets through SMS. It gave IRCTC the rights in three businesses in Indian Railways. The rights means that no one else should do that particular business except IRCTC. It means that IRCTC has no competition in India but IRCTC has a monopoly. Those three businesses with rights are Business Number One No one else should sell railway tickets through online except IRCTC Business Number Two Food and catering services in Indian Railways should be provided only by IRCTC Business Number Three Packaged drinking water in railway stations but not in trains No one else should sell except IRCTC. IRCTC company has monopoly lights for all these three. I will tell you how IRCTC increases its revenue every year by using this power. Listen carefully. Some people may have a doubt Surya says that only IRCTC should sell train tickets, but private companies like Paytm and Make My Trip also sell train tickets. After making an agreement with IRCTC the tickets related to IRCTC will be sold on their platforms with some commission but one important thing you should know here is that till 2018, if any private company wants to sell train tickets on their platforms, then that private company will have to make a one-time payment of 20 lakhs as a maintenance payment to IRCTC. But in 2018 IRCTC has changed this rule and introduced a new rule to increase its revenue and profit that is to remove the annual maintenance fee collected from private companies and instead collect a fixed fee of 12 rupees per ticket.
So that the Indian IRCTC company Govt has a chance to get profit from 10 lakhs to 10 crores and you should be fully aware of this that is paytm the private company that sells most of IRCTC tickets sells around 14% of the tickets sold by IRCTC every year but in 2021 IRCTC India will sell a total of 42 crore train tickets 14% of that. That means five crore 80 tickets Paytm company has sold tickets, so Paytm company has to pay a fee of 12 rupees to IRCTC on each ticket that is if five crore 80 lakh tickets are multiplied by 12 rupees the income of IRCTC is 70 crores it has increased its income from ten lakhs to 70 crores in sales and that too. Income from only one paytm company but the point here is that since Ayer CTC has exclusive rights on the train ticket a private company like ATM has no choice but to give exactly what the company asks for do you understand but so far we have talked about this online ticket services has 54% share in IRCTC business Next catering services business it has 26% share Catering services means in Indian Railways on platforms but in trains but only IRCTC needed by passengers will supply However IRCTC has introduced Fantry Cars with the intention of pressuring the passengers in some trains traveling in long distance and in addition to these we have Zen Food Plaza and refreshment rooms at the railway station.
but these are also a part of IRCTC business. In 2014 IRCTC also started this catering services.
Food is delivered from IRCTC partner restaurant near your seat. There is a water bottle brand called Rail Near because it is also a brand related to IRCTC and IRCTC has exclusive rights to supply drinking water in railway stations and trains. So IRCTC has created a water bottle brand called IRCTC Rail without taking commissions on it by contracting the business to other companies and doing a business of approximately 300 crore rupees every year. It is generating 10% revenue in the total business done by IRCTC. Last but not the least, the last business done by IRCTC company is no Tourism Pally rights, so to do business, it has to compete with other companies. In IRCTC business it offers domestic and foreign tour packages to passengers. There are also special trains as part of these IRCTC runs the most expensive train Sena Buddhisht Circuit and Maharaja Express in India so IRCTC has expanded their business not only in India but also in foreign countries like America, Europe and Australia. Through tourism business 8.3% of Indian Government Railway revenue is generated every year. It also runs some private trains like Tejas Express. Many people have misconceptions that the railways are being run by private companies but the truth is that even Tejas trains are run by IRCTC but the government plan is to make housekeeping services public private. Through IRCTC contracts the services of these private trains to some private companies
