2014 June 2 the day of separation of the state the day when the united Andhra Pradesh was separated into two separate states Andhra and Telangana it is still almost ten years since the day when the state was divided into two separate states. After partition each state continues to carry out its own activities but for the past decade the issue of water shares especially the dispute over the waters of the Krishna River has led to tensions between the two states. The division has come to the fore in both the states Police has suggested a clash over Nagarjunasagar Dam and this issue of Krishna river people is in the news again so I will tell you this simply what is this section of Krishna river people between two Telugu states and what is the actual clash on Nagarjuna sagar dam about If we want to understand about the production sanctities on this Nagarjunasagar Dam first we need to know about the dispute about the share of people of Krishna River when the state was divided so if we go into the details Nagarjunasagar Dam is built on the borders of two states on the Krishna river.
On the left is the joint Guntur Prakasam district with Telangana on the right channel and on the left leg is the joint Nalgonda Khammam district with water but this dispute is actually not only related to Nagarjunasagar Dam it is a dispute between the two states regarding the water share of the Krishna River as this dispute is mainly related to two projects among them. One Srisailam project and two Nagarjunasagar projects but this dispute is a matter of two states the central government formed an organization called Krishna River Management Board KRMB in 2015 to solve the dispute related to these water transfers so the Krishna river is related to the people but after the establishment the water in the Krishna river is 34 percentage for Telangana and 64 percentage for Telangana. KRMB made this suggestion taking into account the population of both states and the distance of Krishna river in that state but Andhra Pradesh did not agree Telangana government insists on water fifty Telangana government also filed a case in the Supreme Court for justice
However in 2016 and 2017 two times in 2016 and 2017 a central government meeting was organized under the leadership of the chief ministers of the two states and an attempt was made to find a solution to the problem and the case filed by the Telangana government in the Supreme Court was withdrawn. It has given clear instructions on the supremacy of these states in the projects according to which the management responsibility of the Srisailam project has been given to the Andhra Pradesh state and the management of the Nagarjunasagar project has been given to the Telangana state. The existing power plant is running under the control of the Telangana government so the power plant which is a part of the Srisailam project should also be given to the Andhra Pradesh government. Since then Andhra Pradesh has been hearing the argument that the management of the projects will be under the control of the state but the use of water release will be subject to the KRMB guidelines. There are total 26 gates into the school out of which 13 gates are in Telangana territory and 13 gates are in Andhra Pradesh territories.
Half of the total dam is in Telangana and half is in Andhra Pradesh but the management of the dam is under the control of the Telangana Government. Earlier in May. Andhra Pradesh government had accepted the proposal of KRMP to use five TMC water for 10 days from 8th to 18th January 2024 and another five TMC water for ten days from 8th to 18th April 2024. Andhra Pradesh has used the second phase of water release which is supposed to be done in January but meanwhile on November 29 midnight on wednesday there was a clash on Nagarjunasagar Dam. Around 400 policemen clashed on the dam. They destroyed the CCTV cameras and tried to release water from the Sagar Kudikas but according to the directives if any state needs water in an emergency they have to apply to KRMB first but the Andhra Pradesh government did not do anything like that and tried to release water without any information. Immediately the Telangana authorities with the help of their police tried to stop the Andhra Pradesh authorities but as the management of the dam was in the hands of the Telangana authorities
The electricity was immediately cut off without being able to lift the gates but the Andhra Pradesh authorities took the current supply from Andhra Pradesh and released the water. There is only 52 feet of water if five more TMCs are released the water in the dam will reach 510 feet that is there is a possibility of reaching dead storage so it is wrong to install huge gates on the dam and destroy the CCTV cameras and release the water without any information ignoring the instructions of KRMB. However according to what Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu said in a media conference on December 1 Nagarjunasagar Dam has 13 gates on the Andhra Pradesh side and thirteen gates on the Telangana side. It is the argument of the government of Andhra Pradesh that our officials have made an effort about what should come to Andhra Pradesh because it is being done under the administration of Andhra Pradesh. Today release was stopped by the Andhra Pradesh authorities after being told to stop After two days of the situation the barricades on the dam have now been removed but now this matter has led to a political debate.
